Coastal Living Room in Classic Black & Rattan

Coastal Living Room in Classic Black & Rattan

This design concept is not one that you would necessarily identify with coastal design, due to its rich dark color palette. However it does have characteristics that you would typically associate with a feeling of the ocean and beach vibes, the black woven cane chair and complementing hand woven rattan coffee table and blue herringbone area rug, all have unmistakable elements of coastal style.

Creating a design concept that was rich in color and style, yet functional and inviting with a feeling of warmth and relaxation and tropical serenity, using these elements was key.

The living room is an area where we spending a lot of time with family and friends and on that premise, this area needed to reflect an element of coziness where you could imagine sitting and relaxing with a cool lemonade shooting the breeze.

Deep cushioned casual sofa’s are the best and are an excellent seating choice. I personally love a neutral colored sofa, paired with colored chairs. A sofa or sectional can certainly command a space and take up a generous foot print, so a lighter colored option prevents it from becoming too overbearing. Accenting with decorative pillows that include a selection of complementary colors of pieces within the space ie: area rug, accent pieces, draperies etc. will provide even distribution of colors throughout. Adding mixed metal elements as in the table and floor lamps create a unique relationship with the corresponding tones of the accent chairs, coffee table and sideboard. All in all creating a beautifully classic refined coastal space with a modern twist!

When creating your coastal inspired space, think outside the box and go with what inspires you, then let your creativity take the lead.
