Loft space for the Horse Lover!

Loft space for the Horse Lover!

When I get to design a space that is horse themed I get all giddy …Pardon the pun!! Maybe because my daughter who is now away at college loved horses and many fond memories of riding horses with her cousins on her Aunt and Uncles Ranch in Medford, OR. She loved to ride and was such a natural, being out in nature and being around these majestic animals was so therapeutic, it was her happy place and a love for these animals that grew and grew over time. So of course when she got to choose the theme for her “big girl” bedroom it was no surprise that it had to be horse themed:)

Creating a themed room to reflect your personality, your interests, your hobbies, places you love to visit, the beach, the mountains, the desert or the city is such an important part of the design process. That is why we as Designers provide a detailed Client Questionnaire to get an accurate understanding of what a client is looking to achieve.

This particular Concept is for a Rustic, Industrial and Vintage inspired space, that instantly takes you away from the hustle bustle of city life, repurposed and raw elements with a classic vintage character, and cozy fabrics and upholstery to create a place to feel relaxed and achieve a calming and positive state of mind.

The brick “peel & stick” textured wallpaper was a fundamental choice wall application to include in the space. Enhancing on this effect, the addition of custom wooden wall ledge moldings, as seen in an inspiration picture, placed in a modern architectural design that also doubles as shelving brings in definition and quite an eye catching and trendy wall decor statement.

For the particular furniture orientation of this room, to prevent hiding or concealing the architectural design of the wall, placing the bed on a diagonal not only helps with a visual impact upon first entering the room, it makes you feel safe, and based on the principals of feng shui, is one of three good positions to place your bed. You may think that the empty corner behind the bed is a waste of valuable space, not necessarily, add either some colorful hanging plants or an oversized plant that reaches above the headboard, a great way to bring in color from nature and personality to the space.

The furniture for this space encompasses an eclectic mix of modern, rustic and industrial elements. Although the pieces may appear a mis-match of sorts, they are similar in nature that they all have corresponding factors that makes them work together so effortlessly and perfectly, from the metallic elements in the lighting with the custom wood panels to the brick color wall paper and the wool area rug and leather accent stools.

Who says artwork has to be hung on the wall, if your wall space doesn’t necessarily accommodate your artwork, then display them in other ways, prop them up against the wall, then layer with two to three smaller and differently orientated frames or canvas, add a floor vase or plant or cozy bean bag to make for quite a comfortable little sitting area nook!
